Reloft Art Gallery presents a personal exhibition by Natalie Rukavishnikova “ABRACADABRA”.
The secret side of the material world, skillfully shrouded in the magic of conditional realism of sensual characters, is revealed in Natalie’s new project.
Symbolism, references to mythology and religious motives, closely intertwined with personal experience, reflect the hidden relationship between man and reality.
Natalie’s characters reflecting on the contradictions of life in plot, left alone with their feelings, take the viewer into a state of search for peace, so necessary for every person, and certainly hidden in the darkest corners of even insane, irrepressible consciousness.
“In the process of creating latest paintings, I immersed myself in the history of the world, in myths, legends and religious stories in order to find what supported and inspired people even in the darkest times. I was looking for symbols of strength, faith and hope.
Attempts to find support for themselves were reflected in new works.
ABRACADABRA is an ancient, mysterious combination of letters, a word. And in different cultures in different eras, it had many meanings.
It is interesting that not only magical or protective properties are attributed to it, but it was also used (tried) in medicine for the treatment of ailments, diseases, including mental ones.
Like a mantra or a prayer, it was also a symbol of faith in a better outcome of events, hopes were pinned on it, the magic of the word was considered a really working method.
This is interesting because absolutely any object, phenomenon or even a person can be endowed with similar properties, for example, a cup, a stone, an animal or a point on a map. The main thing to remember is what has these properties for you, what gives strength, inspires and supports.”
